Bonus #2
I could write about how racism is wrong and PewDiePie is a
Nazi, but I am going to focus on one point that could raise even more
arguments. The entire concept of a joke has been turned into automatic bigotry
label, splattered with intolerance. Society is at the point where people are
offended for being called a women. There is no such thing as a joke anymore.
People would scream at me if I told them my beliefs. I am a white, Christian,
upper-middle class Trump supporter. People would scream names at me more than a
white supremacist would to an African-American. The concept of America has
changed from being hailed as the best country in the world to being a mockery. The
pussification of America has shown repeatedly when people cry about being uncomfortable.
The United States has become the most selfish and egocentric country in
history. If people didn’t take things so personal and so seriously, America
would be where it once was. Mahdawi is taking the side of all the people who
were chanting “Not my president” and needed a “safe place” during the Police
Shootings. These people are fueled by the media and don’t do any research of
their own to find out facts. Saying PewDiePie
is a neo-Nazi and he has “Hatred… camouflaged in absurd memes and an overblown
rhetorical style, hidden in cartoon figures like the “alt-right” mascot Pepe
the Frog.” Anyone who has ever seen a Pepe the frog meme knows this is
completely bullshit propaganda forced into our brains by the fake news that is
the media. Liberal Media (CNN mainly) has established a reputation now for
being false news because someone finally called them out on their lies. You
want white supremacists to go away? You want neo-Nazis to go away? Stop giving
them the spotlight. Writing articles and featured news stories about them only
encourages them to try harder. Madawi says “The style of these memes, their
overblown exaggerated nature, means we often don’t take them seriously. Dismiss
them as jokes. But this is how antisemitism creeps into our lives. Not with a
bang but with a punchline” claiming that memes and jokes are the source of
racism and antisemitism, when in reality the fame of them being hated is what
really fuels them. PewDiePie got paid $15,000,000 last year for making comical
videos on Youtube, so obviously he knows how to make people laugh. He thought
something was funny, tried it out, and it didn’t go so well. I think his role,
and other Youtubers alike, is to make entertaining videos. Not everyone is
going to like every video, and that is perfectly fine, as long as they don’t
write an article about how their feelings got hurt. I’ve watched many of PewDiePie’s internet
videos, and frankly they were very entertaining. I don’t notice Nazi propaganda
and if I did, I can stop watching. That’s the beautiful thing about
entertainment. Family Guy has an entire episode about getting Jesus laid, and
frankly it was offensive. So, I turned it off and went to the next episode. If
a video bothers you, if a joke bothers you, if a tv show bothers you, if a
confederate flag bothers you, you can turn it off.
