The topic of kneeling during the national anthem is obviously a hot topic right now in the media. In an article on CNN, Eliott McLaughlin discusses players taking a knee and Trumps criticism of it. First of all, CNN has not has recently had a good record of credibility, so I took this article with a grain of salt. The entire concept of kneeling during the national anthem has become archaic. NFL athletes no longer kneel for social injustice or racial oppression. Players are doing it simply for attention. Not only is it disrespectful to kneel during the national anthem, but it not even an effective form of protest. Art does not play the same role in our society as it has throughout history or at least not in the sense of paintings or sculptures. We value art in forms of music or movies, but paintings or sculptured have just been reduced to old-fashioned forms of expression. Paintings are sold for outrageous amounts of money for a single color on a canvas, signifying what the quality of art has become. Art has and always will display an invaluable message through color and emotion, however our society just has less of an appreciation for art. Modern cinema has attributed to the decline of art. On the contrary, art has not been erased or forgotten. Artist still use art to show their emotions, their stances on our society, their political views, their loves and passions, and even their support for local baseball teams. The event that took place on September 11 th , 2001 has changed our world arguably more than any other terrorist attack: the collapse of the two tallest buildings in the most populated city in America. The world was shaken, but the effects rippled throughout the United States. The opposition had drawn first blood. Sure, we learned from the attack by making Airport security virtually impenetrable and adding precautions so this could be prevented in the future, but what is most important is the political implications. The greatest nation in the world had a moment in which its proclaimed invincibility was shattered. The United States of America was attacked on a mass scale and the safety we took for granted was tainted with the lives of thousands of Americans. I could write about how racism is wrong and PewDiePie is a Nazi, but I am going to focus on one point that could raise even more arguments. The entire concept of a joke has been turned into automatic bigotry label, splattered with intolerance. Society is at the point where people are offended for being called a women. There is no such thing as a joke anymore. People would scream at me if I told them my beliefs. I am a white, Christian, upper-middle class Trump supporter. People would scream names at me more than a white supremacist would to an African-American. The concept of America has changed from being hailed as the best country in the world to being a mockery. Why are you here?  College isn't necessary to be successful.  You can learn anywhere.  What do you hope to accomplish?  Let’s be honest with ourselves and put something on the table immediately. The entire point of going to college is to make ourselves look better on paper. We take classes in which we don’t give full effort to learn information we will forget. The one thing we are paying all this money for is a single line on our resume that says Bachelor’s Degree in whatever the hell our 18-year-old selves decided. Every student here is looking for one thing: a career. Biology majors are looking to become doctors, engineering majors are looking to create an invention, English majors are looking to be famous writers, and art majors are looking to be working at McDonalds.
